Jonathon graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2014 having completed a BEng in Civil Engineering, a Masters in Durability of Structures and a PhD on Monitoring the Interaction of Multiple Mode Deterioration Mechanisms in Concrete. After a year designing repair mortars, Jonathon moved into consultancy where he spent 4 years designing maritime structures. His maritime work included the management and assessment of maritime assets through condition monitoring, visual and principal inspections, remaining service life analysis, preparing inspection, repair and maintenance regimes for concrete, masonry, iron and steel structures. He has also contributed to the design of various maritime structures including steel and concrete pontoons, sheet pile and combi quay walls, piers Ro-Ro ramps, dolphins, breakwaters, outfalls, intakes and revetments.
Upon joining McFarland Consulting in 2018 Jonathon has been able to utilise his design knowledge in conjunction with his background in durability and deterioration to lead the Structural Health Monitoring projects carrying out structural assessments, conducting load tests and condition monitoring of new and historic structures.
