Baths Coppice Tunnel

London

Location: Worcestershire, England

Baths Coppice Tunnel is an underground water conveyance structure containing a series of pipelines transporting untreated raw water as part of the Elan Valley Aqueduct. McFarland Consulting Ltd w

ere appointed to undertake a Principal Inspection of both the tunnel structure and the internal pipelines to support asset management planning.

The inspections were undertaken under confined space conditions, with access arrangements planned and managed by MCL. Detailed visual inspections were carried out to assess the condition of the tunnel lining, pipe supports and associated structural elements.

To support the inspection findings, MCL undertook laser scanning of the tunnel and internal pipework. The resulting data was used to produce a digital twin, providing an accurate geometric record of the asset.

The digital twin and inspection findings provide the Client with a valuable baseline for future inspections, maintenance planning and intervention design, improving understanding and long-term management of this hidden but critical asset.
