A series of buried gas pipelines serving data centres in Ireland required corrosion protection to ensure long-term operational reliability. McFarland Consulting Ltd were appointed to design and oversee the implementation of a galvanic anode cathodic protection system for the pipeline network.
MCL undertook the cathodic protection design, accounting for pipeline configuration, soil conditions and operational constraints. The scope included procurement of the anodes, technical oversight of installation works undertaken by the pipeline contractor and coordination to ensure correct placement and electrical continuity.
Upon completion of the installation, MCL carried out cathodic protection commissioning and prepared a commissioning report to verify that protection criteria had been achieved. All works were undertaken by certified personnel in accordance with ISO 15257:2017.
The implemented system provides long-term corrosion control for the pipeline assets, reducing maintenance risk and supporting the continued operation of critical energy infrastructure.
