Killybegs Harbour required long-term corrosion protection for a series of newly installed steel fender piles located within a highly aggressive marine environment. McFarland Consulting Ltd were appointed to design and implement a suitable cathodic protection system to safeguard the durability of the assets.
MCL designed a galvanic anode cathodic protection (GACP) system tailored to the exposure conditions and operational requirements of the harbour. The scope of services included detailed design, procurement of aluminium block anodes and oversight of installation works to ensure compliance with the design intent.
Following completion of the installation, MCL attended site to undertake cathodic protection commissioning. Measurements were obtained to verify system performance, and a commissioning report was prepared confirming that the system was operating in accordance with the design requirements.
All works were undertaken and certified by qualified personnel in accordance with ISO 15257:2017. The completed system provides effective, low-maintenance corrosion protection, supporting the long-term performance of the harbour infrastructure.
