Cracking was identified within a series of reinforced concrete diving platforms at the National Aquatic Centre, an international FINA-standard facility. McFarland Consulting Ltd were appointed to assess the significance of the cracking and verify the structural capacity of the platforms.
MCL developed a targeted programme of non-destructive testing, detailed surveys and in-situ load testing. Load tests were undertaken using incrementally loaded water bags, with high-precision instrumentation used to monitor structural response.
The testing confirmed the structural capacity of the diving platforms and provided the Client with confidence in their continued use. MCL also developed a repair strategy to address durability concerns and enhance the long-term performance of the structures.
