Tempo Building

London

Location: London, England

Low compressive strength results obtained from initial core testing to the second and third floor slabs of the Tempo Building prompted the need for further investigation. McFarland Consulting Ltd were appointed to undertake an expanded programme of core extraction and testing to inform critical project decisions.

MCL planned and managed the extraction of 27 concrete cores over a four-day period, with cores tested in accordance with BS EN 13791 to assess in-situ compressive strength. Schmidt Hammer testing was also undertaken to provide supplementary information on surface hardness.

The works were delivered alongside ongoing construction activities, including roof installation and stairwell demolition, requiring careful coordination and meticulous planning of coring locations. A specialist subcontractor was engaged to undertake the coring works, with MCL managing location mapping and quality control.

The results of the investigations informed pivotal decisions regarding the future of the structure, providing the Client with the confidence to proceed based on a robust understanding of material performance and structural capacity.
